WHIMSICAL WILD WEST: AN ENCHANTED FOREST WEDDING AT DON HOEL'S

There's something about weddings at Don Hoel's that makes me want to get a little more creative.

Maybe it's the towering trees, the cabins tucked into the forest, or the fact that the venue already has so much character on its own. Whatever it is, I absolutely love designing weddings here, especially when my couples are open to something a little unconventional.

For Jennifer's wedding, we took inspiration from the Wild West, but with a whimsical, almost fairytale-like twist.

Think rustic meets romantic. Crystals, vintage candelabras, wildflowers, soft draping, and little details that looked like they belonged in an enchanted forest.

I wanted the design to feel collected rather than overly styled. A little wild, a little imperfect, and full of personality.

A LITTLE WILD WEST, A LITTLE FAIRYTALE

One of my favorite things about designing at Don Hoel's is finding ways to complement the natural surroundings without trying to compete with them.

For Jennifer's wedding, we leaned into the rustic charm of the property while incorporating more delicate, romantic details.

Crystal accents brought a little sparkle into the forest, while vintage-inspired candelabras added height, warmth, and an unexpected elegance to the setting.

I love mixing elements that wouldn't traditionally be paired together. There's something so beautiful about taking an object that feels formal, like a candelabra, and placing it in the middle of the woods.

It makes the entire design feel a little more magical.

THE SWEETHEART TABLE SURPRISE

If there's one thing I love doing, it's surprising my couples with details they weren't expecting.

For Jennifer, I wanted her sweetheart table to feel like something straight out of a storybook.

We created a softly draped sweetheart table and then surprised the couple by scattering loose flowers and petals all across the fabric. Rather than arranging everything perfectly, I wanted the flowers to look as though they had naturally fallen there.

It was whimsical, romantic, and just the right amount of wild.

But my favorite little detail?

Hand-pressed dandelions on their candlesticks.

I incorporated real pressed dandelions into the candle details as a subtle nod to the surrounding forest and the carefree, whimsical feeling we were trying to create.

They're the kind of tiny detail you might not even notice at first glance, but once you do, you realize how much thought went into the design.

And those are always my favorite details.

FINDING BEAUTY IN THE UNEXPECTED

I think one of the reasons I loved this wedding so much was that it didn't follow a traditional design formula.

We weren't trying to create a perfectly polished ballroom wedding in the middle of the forest.

We wanted something that felt organic, romantic, a little eclectic, and completely true to Jennifer's vision.

The combination of crystals, candelabras, wildflowers, and delicate handmade touches created something that felt both playful and elegant.

And that's something I really believe in as a designer. Luxury doesn't always have to mean extravagant floral installations or perfectly symmetrical tablescapes.

Sometimes luxury is simply having someone care enough to hand-press a dandelion because they know it will make your wedding feel that much more special.

MADE TO LEAVE YOU IN AWE

Jennifer's wedding was such a fun opportunity to embrace a completely different design style.

From the whimsical sweetheart table to the unexpected combination of rustic and romantic details, everything came together in a way that felt so natural to Don Hoel's.

I love when my couples give me the creative freedom to add those extra little touches, especially the ones they don't know are coming.

Because at the end of the day, my favorite part of wedding design isn't just creating something beautiful.

It's creating something that feels like you, with a few little surprises from me along the way.
