AN ENCHANTED FOREST: A WHIMSICAL WEDDING AT DON HOEL'S

An eclectic celebration of love, layered textures, unexpected details, and a little bit of magic tucked away in the Sedona forest.
There are weddings that follow a particular aesthetic, and then there are weddings where you get to throw the rulebook out the window and create something entirely your own.
Hannah and Michael's wedding at Don Hoel's Cabins was absolutely the latter.
Nestled beneath the towering trees of Oak Creek Canyon, Don Hoel's already has a kind of magic to it. The forest, the cabins, the sound of the creek, and the feeling of being completely tucked away from the rest of the world made it the perfect setting for a wedding that was anything but traditional.

Hannah and Michael wanted something eclectic, whimsical, romantic, and a little unexpected. Nothing overly polished or perfectly matched. They wanted their celebration to feel collected, full of personality, and almost as though it had grown organically from the forest itself.
And for someone who absolutely loves mixing textures, playing with unconventional design elements, and creating things you don't see at every wedding, this was a dream.
A FOREST FLOOR FILLED WITH ROMANCE
Our design was built around the idea of bringing an enchanted, almost storybook-like atmosphere into the woods.
We incorporated towering 22-inch candelabras, vintage-inspired silver pieces, delicate lace overlays, and an abundance of candlelight to create a setting that felt romantic, moody, and beautifully eclectic.
One of my favorite design elements was the use of draping amaranthus. Its cascading shape brought movement and an almost overgrown quality to the arrangements, softening the more structured elements of the tablescape.
We paired these with thoughtfully curated florals, vintage crystal, and layers of fabric that added depth without feeling too formal.
Cream-colored linens provided a soft foundation, while lace, silver, and candlelight introduced the character and texture that made the design so unique.
I wanted the tables to feel like something you might stumble upon deep in an enchanted forest. A little mysterious, a little whimsical, and completely romantic.
THE ART OF MIXING THE UNEXPECTED
One of the things I loved most about this wedding was that nothing needed to match perfectly.
We brought together thrifted silver platters, vintage-inspired candelabras, crystal details, Moroccan rugs, and layered textiles to create a design that felt collected rather than purchased as a set.

It's easy to make a wedding look cohesive when everything matches. The real creative challenge is taking pieces that wouldn't traditionally belong together and finding a way to make them feel intentional.
For Hannah and Michael, we embraced that challenge wholeheartedly.
Their celebration wasn't about following a trend. It was about creating an atmosphere that reflected their personalities: playful, romantic, and unapologetically themselves.
A CELEBRATION FULL OF PERSONALITY (AND A FEW SURPRISES)
As much as I love creating beautiful spaces, I love finding ways to make a wedding genuinely fun.
Hannah and Michael's celebration was filled with personality, and I wanted to make sure their wedding wasn't just something beautiful to look at, but an experience their guests would remember.
So naturally, we had a few surprises up our sleeves.
We surprised the couple with their very own wandering hot dog man, bringing a little unexpected humor and late-night fun into the forest. And because this wedding was anything but ordinary, we also surprised them with a beer bong.
Yes, a beer bong. At a wedding filled with vintage candelabras, delicate lace, and cascading florals.
And somehow, it was perfect.
That's what I loved so much about this celebration. We could create an incredibly romantic, whimsical setting without losing the playful personalities of the people we were celebrating.
From their checkered dance floor to their Lord of the Rings-inspired ceremony music and joyful recessional to "I'm a Believer," there was never a dull moment.
Michael even handcrafted their menus and signage, adding another personal touch to a wedding already filled with so much character.
I don't believe elegance and fun have to be mutually exclusive. You can have the most beautiful tablescape in the world and still surprise your guests with something completely ridiculous.
In fact, those unexpected moments are often the ones everyone remembers.
And for Hannah and Michael, a little whimsy, a little romance, and a whole lot of personality made for the perfect celebration.

DESIGNING BEYOND THE TRADITIONAL
I think one of the biggest misconceptions about luxury wedding design is that everything needs to be pristine, symmetrical, and perfectly coordinated.
Hannah and Michael's wedding was a reminder that luxury can also be playful.
It can be a vintage silver platter discovered while thrifting. It can be cascading florals draped over a candelabra. It can be lace layered over cream linens, candlelight dancing beneath the trees, or a dance floor that feels wonderfully out of place in the middle of a forest.
To me, thoughtful design isn't about making everything match. It's about making everything belong.
And that was exactly what we set out to accomplish.
A LITTLE MAGIC IN THE WOODS
Looking back on September 5, what I remember most is how much personality we were able to bring into a single celebration.
Every texture, every floral arrangement, every vintage detail, and every unexpected moment contributed to an atmosphere that felt whimsical, intimate, and completely unforgettable.
Hannah and Michael gave us the creative freedom to build something wonderfully unconventional, and watching it all come together beneath the trees at Don Hoel's was incredibly rewarding.

Their wedding was proof that some of the most beautiful celebrations are the ones that don't try to fit into a particular category.
Sometimes, a little bit of magic happens when you let a wedding be exactly what it's meant to be.
An enchanted forest, a love story, and a celebration unlike any other.
With love,
